Before I get too old to remember, I thought I'd try to capture, for the Coniston community to share and build off of, a recap of my Mt. Washington trips.

First, I want it to be fully understood that I've never ascended Mt. Washington in any way other than on foot.

Trip 1 - 1977 Session 1 & 2 CIT - as a CIT. Tom Perron and Sandy Loos were our trip leaders. Beth and fill in more (if she remembers). Fred VonHouseWrecker (not his real name) and I were the group's "caboose". He due to his massive size, me because of my lack of stamina. Trip route: Day 1 - Pinkham Notch to Hermit's Shelter at the base of Tuckermans. Day 2 - up the Headwall to the Summit and then down to Lakes. Day 3 - LONG hike out across the real Presidential ridge to Crawford Notch. Pictures to follow.

Trip 2 - 198? Session 1 & 2 CIT - as a co-leader. CIT Directors were Dawn Ferguson and Doug Smith. CIT's on that trip included Mark "Action" Jackson, Del Chapin, ... . Route: Day 1 - To Crag Camp on Mt. Adams from north. Day 2 - Across ridges (Jefferson, etc.) to summit then down to Lakes. Day 3 - ??

Trip 3 - 1984 Session 1 & 2 CIT - as CIT Director with Beth as co-leader. I do believe this was the one where Rory got sick and puked in everyone's boots at Lakes.

(as I go I think I'll be including fewer details. I'll fill them in by editing the post later!)

Trip 4 - 1984 Session 1 & 2 CIT - as CIT Director with Beth as co-leader.

Trip 5 - 1984 Session 1 & 2 CIT - as CIT Director with Kate Collins as co-leader.

Trip 6 - 1984 Session 1 & 2 CIT - as CIT Director with Kate Collins as co-leader.

Trip 7 - Trip with Action over Labor Day

Trip 8 - Trip with Lynn to Lakes

Trip 9 - Trip with Drew in the rain

Trip 10 - Trip with Kristen

Day trips with Gould Academy Summer School (Lenny, "Peak-a-week")

Hi Sherm,

This is Karen Babineau, CIT '82 I think, in Dawn Ferguson's group!

Thinking of visiting camp this week, while in the area, to consider sending my girls Mabel and Maggie next summer.

Any other alumni I may remember? Do you remember me? 11 years I attended camp, LIT being my last.

Hope to reconnect and get involved.

Sherm:

If my memory serves me, I was a CIT in 1981 with Dawn and Doug in Sessions 1&2. Notables on our Mt Washington trip were Michelle Parsons, Frank Grace, Anne "Teddy" Hill, Holly Dickey, Jim Joel, Lenny Berkowitz, Amy Maas, Del Chapin, Kirsten Smith, Mike Brown, Steve Castle, and a few others I just cannot remember after all these years. I'm at a loss whether you were on our trip or Session 3&4. My legs still ache from Day 1 on Mt Adams.

PS And the beautiful, classy Karen Babineau (posting above) was on our trip, too!!

I have pictures somewhere of the '81 crew at the end of the first day. Nancy Winnett is another name on that trip.

Todd Smith, Gina Katovolos (sp?) and some Karate dude from Marblehead, MA who dated Holly Dickey was there too.

Sherm, any data point on my old pal Corinne Simmons from the riding staff?

[quote="Sherm"]Before I get too old to remember,

Wow! I am envious of your trips. I wrote my post then read yours. Sandy was the leader for the girls my CIT year. Was Doug a very healthy looking, very clean living young man from the mid west or Ohio? I thought my CIT leader's name was Bob...but your mention of "Doug" makes me wonder...and speaking of being too old to remember, I am, are there records? was I there in '76? or was it '75 or '77. I was also a camper for several years and events have blended....

I am sure you will remember Mr. Sanders demonstrating the proper manner in which one removes peanut butter from a knife before returning your meal tray to the kitchen!

Richard,

Thanks for your posts.

The best way to "remember" what years you were at camp is to try and find an annual (yearbook) and see if you are listed as camper/CIT/Staff. The camp has annuals back to the 60's and at some point we hope to digitize them all so you can download and browse through them.

Keep checking back on the web site too, for information about reunions and other events. We are going to try to pull together a reunion of late August 2007, but no firm plans yet.

Cheers!

Sherm

Well, this forum is so old that probably no one will even see this post - but I had to chime in.

Mt Washington with Coniston was truly three of the best days of my life. Since then I've done it three other times. Once even in Winter to see the crazies ski the ravine.

I went with Coniston as a CIT in (I think) 1981. The people that have been mentioned here from that trip are correct to my memory too. (Although they do say the memory is the first to go.) The karate dude's name was Ralph, although I have no idea what his last name was...

It truly was a great trip. Doug Smith was one of the leaders, along with Sherm and Mark and Dawn and I'm not sure who else. Someone here asked about Doug. He was from Ohio. Kathy Smith was his sister. They were longtimers.

Every time I go up Washington and any of the other numerous mountains I think of Coniston with the fondest of memories.
